Hi all,
Just a mind exercise today, but could be reality very soon:
I have LM18 today, running happily on disc with one partition as LVM device.
I have sufficient free room to create a new volume and install LM19 into it.
So how to install LM19 in the new volume, without destroying the actual installation?
What are the caveats?
Should I reuse the actual home volume or create a new?
Same question for swap?
Regards,
Jacques-D.
PS: if I have enough time, I will try it in a virtual machine....

Re: Installing LM19 in a new LVM volume alongside to LM18
For testing and learning purposes, I would:
1) Start the live session and create one (1) partition for the new install - ext4, about 50 GB.
2) In the installer, for location, choose Something Else and install to the new, 50 GB ext4 partition and mount @ /
3) I wouldn't share /home
4) The existing SWAP will be used for the new installation automatically and I don't think there is a need for another SWAP.
In my mind, this is a temporary installation for experimentation purposes... kick the tires and play with stuff. No need to worry about breaking anything because if you do you can test timeshift's ability to restore/repair borks... and if it all goes sideways, you can just wipe the installation and start from scratch - no harm, no fowl!
Good luck and Enjoy the Mint!

Re: Installing LM19 in a new LVM volume alongside to LM18
Hi Reorx,
Just tested in a VirtualBox VM and it works without problems!
Next question
Would it be possible to install with some chroot magic while the LM18 system is running?
Thanks!

- VM is running Debian
- Created a new volume
- Boot from LM19 iso
- Start install
- Choose "Something else"
- Select the just created volume for root
- Continue to the end.
- Reboot

Sorry, I don't know - beyond my skill set - i.e. I have NO experience doing it that way.
