Boot Issues after moving Mint from a BIOS MB to a UEFI MB

Post by exfed2002 »

I just retired my old CPU that had a legacy bios MB, and got a new one with a UEFI MB.

All went well restoring an image of my old WIN 10 Pro installation and converting MBR to GPT and it works well.

Not so with my Mint installation on a separate SSD. I finally got it working and on the boot menu.

When I select the Mint SSD, it loads GRUB immediately, and I can select Mint, the first item on the menu.

It loads and I get this set of messages.

It sits for a few seconds, then I get this screen in green

After a few seconds I get the normal logon screen and i can log in.

The rest of everything loads, all programs are working, but I am stuck in software rendering mode.

I have decided to keep my Windows and Linux stuff completely separate, which will require manually syncing files, but that I can do.

What I need to know is how I can get out of rendering mode and back to normal.

Try installing kernel version 4.15.x then reboot and test.
UKUU is one utility which can help installing kernels.

Code: Select all

 uname -r
gives the kernel you have booted to.
