Mint 19 cinnamon 64 geforce video problem [Solved]

Post by zb21 »

I did a clean install of LinuxMint 19 Cinnamon 64bit on a system with an NVIDIA C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] that was previously running 18.2 cinnamon without a problem.

Mint 19 cinnamon 64 ran fine from cd but after install opening an app would sometimes bring a garbled or strange video effect window. Closing the app and reopening it would sometimes help, at least until a daughter window opened.

Fwiw, I then did a clean install of Mint 19 XFCE 64bit on the same machine and everything works fine. Both version downloads were verified and both dvds were write verified when written to disk by k3b app.

The following was run within XFCE.

Re: Mint 19 cinnamon 64 geforce video problem

Mint 19 x64 Xfce also intermittently scrambles new windows with the hardware above.

I'm going back to 18.3 x64 Cinnamon. Should this thread remain open, be updated to "Closed," or maybe updated with a different description?

It doesn't seem to have been a video problem per se.

By removing the IDE drive, disabling the IDE channels in the bios, and running solely on a sata SSD drive the problem has been solved.
