Linux Mint 19 upgrade stuck half way

Post by rogerChaslock »

I have an HP laptop. It had Mint 18.3 installed, and I had installed Mint 19 in a spare partition for testing.
I tried mintupgrade today, after making a snapshot with Timeshift.
The upgrade got stuck on android-tools-adbd:amd64, and would not progress. I ran apt autoremove manually, and tried again, with the same result. I exited the terminal and rebooted.
I can now boot the newly upgraded system, but cannot log in. I can run the installation from the spare partition, and thus access the log files from the upgrade.

a) are the log files of interest (which ones)?

b) Can I correct the upgrade and resume?

c) How do I recover from the stored snapshot?

Regards

Hi,

I had a similar problem. I would login to mate desktop and would be taken back to the login screen again. Try looking in .xsession-errors if there is a message involving vino you might try removing that package and restarting your display manager.
regards.
