Cinnamon cannot start/install (broken dependencies)

Hi all,

I have upgraded to 19 (tara) and after that Cinnamon works, but only in safe mode (after click on Yes to restart Cinnamon it crashes again and again...) Next I install some software and made some reboots - Cinnamon still works, but only in safe mode... and after another restart I see only terminal/console, Cinnamon cannot start and cannot be reinstalled, because of broken dependencies...

Unable to locate package libcog120, any ideas how to fix Cinnamon UI?

I was able to fix broken dependencies and install Cinnamon successfuly, but it still cannot start,

Code: Select all

$ cinnamon
Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused
Cinnamon error: Unable to open X display :0

Code: Select all

$ startx
/etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc: 3: exec: /usr/bin/X: not found
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error

I got the same error, it seems you cannot start cinnamon just by typing that.

Try sudo service lightdm restart

...i'm not familiar with Cinnamon myself, but:
1)...considering the upgrade wasn't that smooth in the first place, can you fire up Synaptic & check if xserver-xorg-video-all has been installed as well?
2)...there are numerous complaints & bug reports in regards to 4.15.0-24 causing all sorts of annoyances, ie. it's certainly recommended to install 4.15.0-23 & boot into that one instead...
