ubiquity installer do not see SATA disk on legacy motherboard

Post by cypa » Sun Jul 15, 2018 4:21 am

Motherboard GA-K8NF-9 CPU Athlon 64
Linux mint 19 64-bit
SATA drive Seagate ST380817AS

Drive sda available on command line and was mounted correctly but Installer do not provide sda in the disk partitioning stage, only installer flash drive is seen in the drive list.

In the /var/log/installer/debug file I can see messages free space 80Gb but next step part manager do not list sda.

What should we do?

Are you dual-booting or single-booting.? If dual-booting, the Windows system is likely already using the maximum limit of 4 Primary partitions for MBR/ms-dos disks(= need to delete one of them) OR Fast Startup was not disabled in Win 8.1/10, ie >Control Panel >Power options.

How did you create the Live LM 19 USB.? With which program.?

Perhaps related
Motherboard Gigabyte H370M D3H
Linux Mint 19
SATA drive Seagate ST2000DM006

My system setup as legacy. User Manual almost useless when it comes to what settings should or should not be changed when not being setup as UEFI.

As a result I've had system suddenly kick off then a message pop up saying the BIOS has been reset. At this point very unsure whether I've got a hardware issue or whether this user still hasn't found the correct settings to use.

<t>Seems like weird Seagate disk which is not appear on installer partitioning step with 2 different motherboards, but other disk WDC 2,5' worked normally.<br/>
Finally I've installed OS Linux Mint on WDC and then rsync it to this weird Seagate and it boots fine now.</t>
