Cannot write grub to /target

Post by alexj » Mon Jul 16, 2018 2:24 am

Install goes OK, but then fails to write grub to "/target". I never created /target. Tried different options with efi and /boot partitions, on different drives (I have an NvME Smasung 960 and a SATA Firecuda hybrid).

Seems to be the same error I was getting.
Try what gm10 suggested to me.
Install without Internet connection so you won't receive that update, see viewtopic.php?f=90&t=273058

also had same issue. ended up installing grub2 using the ubuntu boot repair tool https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair . Instal untill error then run boot repair.

issue:
syslog says it cant find the efi grub package on the CDrom. Its odd as most new laptops would be UEFI boot by default particularly users doing a WIN 10 dual-boot.
