Is it OK to do a fresh install of Linux Mint 19 or are there still issues going on?

Post by SamLearnsLinux » Fri Jul 20, 2018 7:26 am

Been reading about problems and issues with both a fresh install as well as an upgrade for the past few weeks. I am planning to do a fresh install of Linux Mint 19, not decided if cinnamon or mate yet, I wanted to know if the kinks and glitches have been sorted out the by Mint team?

Hello SamLearnsLinux,

It depends, if your machine is UEFI then you need to follow the instructions in this thread: [url][viewtopic.php?f=90&t=273058/url]
if it's an older non uefi machine you can install as usual and it seems to work well for me. There are always a few ruff edges on all new releases and 19 is no exception. But for the most part is a great release. If your worried about it, why not just stick to 18.3 until the some of the bugs are worked out. If you depend on wine for any programs right now I'd wait on upgrading as wine seems to have problems in mint 19/Ubuntu 18.04.
Good luck what ever you choose.

It seems as if the new Linux Mint 19 ISO image files are being deployed to the Mint mirror servers at the moment.
Some mirror servers may have received them already, some will not have received them, yet.
Cf. Linux Mint 19 "Tara" - New ISOs

The answer to the initial question, "Is it OK to do a fresh install of Linux Mint 19?" from my point of view will be:

Make sure that you download one of the revised Linux Mint 19 ISO image files, not the old ones from June.
Best show a little patience and wait till there is an official announcement that the revised Linux Mint 19 ISO image files are available for downloading. Very likely here:

Linux Mint 18.1 64-bit Cinnamon Desktop, Total Commander 9.21a 64-bit
Ubuntu 18.04.1 32-bit Mate Desktop, Total Commander 9.21a 32-bit

I did an install of Mint 19 Cinnamon on a USB stick last night. I did turn off the network and then did the updates after a reboot. Runs like a top now 8) 8)

Fantastic. I'm about to install 19 Mate. I wonder if I have to do an offline update or if the problem has been solved with the new v2 iso?

Appears that V2 has fixed the problem. You should be good to go with V2
