Dualboot Win10/LinuxMint Cinnamon19 uefi

Post by keane » Fri Jul 20, 2018 5:02 pm

Hi,

I am trying for a week now to install Win 10 and LinuxMint Cinnamon 19 64bit on the same ssd. my laptop has uefi. Everytime the installation aborts and it says grubloader cannot be installed. I tried everything i could find in the ubuntu wiki.
I formated my ssd completely installed win10, disabled secure boot and fast boot. I minimized the win 10 sytem partition with the windows tool. i installed the linuxmint image on an usb stick with rufus and chose uefi.i created a root partition(/) (ext4) and a home (/home) partition (ext4) and a ntfs partition for data for both systems. i chose the windows boot manager partition for grub loader to install.

And now i dont know what to try anymore. Please help ;)

In terminal on the booted ISO, run one line at a time

Code: Select all

sudo mkdir -p /mnt/boot/efi
sudo mount /dev/sda4 /mnt
sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot/efi
for i in /dev /dev/pts /proc /sys /run; do sudo mount -B $i /mnt$i; done
sudo chroot /mnt
apt-get update
apt-get install ubuntu-system-adjustments
apt install --reinstall grub-efi-amd64-signed
update-grub
exit
Reboot and see if the install works

You could try to install without internet or use the new ISO that was released just 3 days ago

Did you copy and paste the commands using mouse or touchpad?

Is the hybrid shutdown in Windows turned off?

When did you download your ISO, the new ones are only 3 days old
https://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/538 is the new one

I can't be sure why the instructions didn't work as I have used similar to fix a test install of LM 19 Cinnamon on my EFI laptop and fixed some issues on the #linuxmint-help channel on IRC

I would verify the download with whatever checksum they are using to see if it is the new version. I would suspect most are up to date

On the motherboard BIOS/EFI, have you tried disabling BIOS/Legacy boot completely (so UEFI only)? I encountered the same error message during install and disabling legacy boot worked for me.
