After installing kernel 4.15.0-24 LM 18.3 cinnamon began to hang on shutdown. With the new kernel 4.15.0-29 the problem still occurs. I tried booting with a previous kernel, but without success. LM is the only operating system on this notebook and it uses nvidia driver.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I too noticed a vastly increased time to shutdown with one of the last two kernels, wish I had made a point of testing that after each upgrade.
My shutdown times used to be 6 to 8 seconds, now it is almost a full minute.

Have you tried updating your nVidia drivers since kernel update?
open terminal and copy paste the below
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
then push enter and select yes to add
sudo apt-get update
then push enter wait for it to update then close the terminal
Then go to your Driver Manager and update to the latest drivers

In my case, don't have the nvidia graphics card.

Thanks Lord Boltar, but when I go the Driver Manager there are no changes, no new driver to install.

Next option is to upgrade your kernel - you said you are using - "After installing kernel 4.15.0-24 LM 18.3" this kernel has issues and is no longer available in the repositories upgrade to 4.15.0-29 hopefully this will fix your issue. Reboot after upgrading

You uninstalled the previous kernel, or it's there but didn't work, or what?

If I boot with a previous kernel, it works but when I arrest the pc the system hangs with a black screen or the mint logo.

I've just solved installing the 4.4 kernel.
