[Solved] UNetbootin Missing In Mint 19?

Post by blueocean » Thu Jul 26, 2018 4:17 pm

My Mint 19 Cinnamon does not have UNetbootin in the Software Manager. Does anyone know why? Does it not support Mint 19?

You'd better ask the developer that...

Looks like it's available here:

https://launchpad.net/unetbootin

and the last update was May 8, 2018.

Hi blueocean,

I did not know that the excellent USB stick application "unetbootin" was ever in the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager. I always install it using their PPA or their deb file which is available and works for all editions and versions of Linux Mint including Linux Mint 19 based on Ubuntu 18.04 bionic (08 May 2018).

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gezakovacs/ppa

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt install unetbootin
Hope this helps ...

Yes it was in the Software Manager, but not now. I thought the creator of it would email as to why it was removed, but he has not. Before reading your comment, I downloaded it from his site and tested it. It seems okay. Thanks.

Hi blueocean,

You are welcome...

"unetbootin" is a great USB stick application that works on Linux (any edition and version), Mac, or MS Windows.

Anyone can also install and use "Etcher", Linux Mint Image writer (built-in), Startup Disk Creator, MultiSysem, Multiboot USB, etc...

Unetbootin is not in the Bionic repos because gksu is one of its dependencies. With no more gksu, no more unetbootin, for now.

I have no idea how the OP is using it successfully, unless the devs site has an updated version that doesn't require gksu.

EDIT: Just found the dev changed main.cpp on May 9th to use pkexec if gksu or kdesu don't work.

Cool. It seems okay, but that sounds why it was taken out.

The problem seems mutual.

Mint 18&19 aren't included in unetbootin either.
Use the option where you can just browse to an ISO of your choice.
