Installation Take More Than 3 Hours

Post by vw98075 »

I try to install the 19 Cinnamon on an old Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop. After near 3 hours for the installation process, it is still copying files. The followings are some messages on the console

... lost 9600 rtc interrupts
...
... 23 callbacks suppressed

Is something wrong?

Those are kernel messages. It's highly likely that your old hardware is not compatible with newer kernels. Try Mint 18.3.

Thanks for the info. I had installed the 18.x Cinnamon on the laptop before successfully. So, I shall stop the installation process and install the 18.3 Cinnamon instead.

since it's an older machine - - don't use Cinnamon, but rather use the Mate Desktop.
8)
that's a bit easier on the older PCs.

Or XFCE, which is just a tiny bit lighter than MATE, and which I prefer to MATE. But either will work much better on older machines than Cinnamon will.

Thanks for mentioning the alternative. I haven't tried other editions.

Thanks for the info.

After reading the cons on https://www.slant.co/versus/1122/1125/~xfce_vs_cinnamon, I am little bit uneasy on the edition. I will still give it a try.

Interesting. I have been using it on my laptop for several years, and have installed Mint XFCE on computers for a number of friends, and it has worked fine. I plan to install Mint 19 XFCE on my home desktop computer (currently running 17.3 Cinnamon) soon.
