No Right sound

On Cinnamon 18.3 Sylvia sound card is SB Audigy Se.
Sound ok on left speaker and centre speaker but nothing on left speaker.

Any ideas please?

Yes sound test is fine on left and centre with the test but nothing on the right.

Hi Colin44.

In the terminal, type alsamixer (you might then need to press F6 to select your sound card.) Under some columns you'll see numbers like this 68<>68 if you have one that is something with a high number and zero, such as 100<>0, then that is the source of your problem.

If this is the case, use the arrow keys to move to the offending column, then keep pressing e until the numbers match.

If none of this applies, check the connection (3.5mm jack?) maybe give it a little twist.

I'm leaning towards a hardware (as in speakers or cable) fault. If you plug headphones in, do they work?

I Shall be away for a few days so will post back having tried things.

I rather stupidly forgot to mention all speakers work perfectly when running windows so cant be a physical problem with connections.

Pleased to say I have found the answer.

After a lot of online searching I found a post where someone had cured the problem by checking alsamixer. I had been there but not realised that the bars were only showing the left channels because they were all the same narrow green bar.
Following the suggestion in that post I reduced all bars to zero and then increased them again, to my surprise they all rose with green bars now filling columns.
Tested sound and now have sound on all speakers!

Now have a problem saving the settings that I used, next reboot, and it has reset and I had to do it all again.

How do I save the settings please?

Try this. Set the volume they way you want and exit alsamixer back to the terminal. Now type sudo alsactl store and hopefully your setting will be remembered. If you reboot and experience the same issue, try sudo alsactl restore in the terminal and test the sound.
