I have a dual boot dell desktop that boots win10 and mint w/ uefi and secure boot. I upgraded mint to 19, and in the update process, answered a grub question(I think) 'update or keep?' with keep. This, I think, led to mint not booting w/ secure boot on. Is there a way to reconfigure the grub software to allow mint to boot w/ secure boot on?
Thanks.

that Secure Boot will ensure that only the Windows System will Boot-up,,
so re-check the machine's BIOS settings, to see if any changes were made in that area ..
as any change in the Grub Boot Process shouldn't have resulted in that error.

the only thing that is truly "secure" in secure boot, a microsoft windows innovation, is that it makes sure that you will always "securely" insure the fact that only your windows will be the OS that boots up...it is M$ way to try and confound the user into thinking that things like Linux OSs are inferior to their product because it just wont boot when secure boot is enabled...the best and easiest thing you can do is simply disable "secure boot" in your UEFI...personally, im just waiting for the day when some tech savvy script kiddie finds a way to compromise that function on windows systems and dual boot windows/linux systems...and why not, everything else that seems to be built in systems these days touted as "for the user experience" tend to be exploitable in one way or another...keep your system as simple as possible for less problems in the long run and just shut it off...DAMIEN

But secure boot won't allow mint.
My idea: if the mint 19 live usb will load w/ secure boot... does that not mean that it has a config or shim that the ssd needs to have?
Thx

I wish I knew, but I don't. I have no experience with SSDs.DazedInDunwoody wrote: ⤴Thu Aug 16, 2018 9:30 am ...

Any computer that I've had, I turn off secure boot. I personally find that it's a hindrance. I'm the only one that uses my laptop, so I don't need all that security.
If your machine can run ok without secure boot on and it's ok to have it that way (not sure if yours is a company machine), then I'd leave secure boot off.
