Failed boot: "nvidia-persistenced : no such file or directory"

Post by FLJerseyBoy »

Dual-booting Mint 17.3 (default) and Windows 10. Current situation is captured on the attached screen shot; message at boot:

Code: Select all

systemd-udevd[1031]: failed to execute '/bin/systemcrl' 'bin/systemctl stop --no-block nvidia-persistenced': no such file or directory
System hangs there. Cannot even GRUB to command line for attempted restoration. Video card: GTX 645; monitor: Dell U2515H.

Was all set to re-install from ISO but could not back up /home -- attempted to do it from the Linux partition to a stick drive but don't have permissions to even read too many folders.

This seemed similar but not identical to this issue (solutions didn't help):

Have also attempted various "nomodeset" alternatives (editing command line pre-boot); I don't get the message anymore, but it also never gets past the "Linux Mint 17.3" screen.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted!
