[SOLVED] Missing Grub screen at start up

Post by palimmo » Sun Aug 19, 2018 3:07 pm

Hi.
My system starts up, skips the grub screen, where I can (if needed) choose different kernels and options, and boots immediately Linux Mint 19.
I have no dual boot system but I want the grub screen anyway.
How can I restore it?
Thanks!

Hi palimmo.

In the terminal, run xed admin:///etc/default/grub and change the line:

Code: Select all

GRUB_TIMEOUT=0
to:

Code: Select all

GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
You can change 10 to any number of seconds you wish.

You can also hold down the Shift key when the oem splash screen appears. This will force a grub screen with no timeout.
Good if you only need grub occasionally.

If you change /etc/default/grub as MrEen has shown then you must also run:

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
to make the changes effective.

Great.
Shift works.
I'll test the permanent work around and I'll let you know.

Thanks for that all41. Don't know how I missed it.
