Kernel error with latest mint update (SOLVED)

When I do the latest mint kernel update I get the following two error messages. then I have to use advanced and choose previous kernel to boot. this has been going on for over a week now. below is the two error messages that I get when trying to update. I don't know how to remove the bad kernel.

tried to update again and got the following.

The problem is now solved it was Sophos Anti Virus that was stopping the updated kernel.

you do not need anti virus software with linux...read the information from the link provided below...it will explain why it is unnecessary and can actually make your system less secure...linux is not windows...DAMIEN
