[ SOLVED ] Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all

Post by Chriske »

Hi,
Any ideas how to solve this.
Installing Mint went very smooth very fast. (Was a empty disk - I removed the Win10 disk)
When booting that laptop the only message I get is :

Selected boot image did not authenticate.
Please press enter to attempt boot to next device.

When I enter Bios I see that Linux is recognised, (in one of the BIOS screens I read 'Ubuntu')

Thanks in advance
Chris

Did you try to boot through the Boot menu ? Can't remember the function key to use at startup, Esc or Fn?

Nope, there's no bootmenu at all just that message on a white screen
There's no dual boot either, just Mint 18.3 on that HD.

Did you try the Esc or F9 keys, press repeatedly each at startup.

Check Secure Boot is disabled in the bios settings.

The device boot order is not the problem here. What about the Secure Boot setting, any option in the bios related to Secure Boot ?

For some reason that setting can't be saved, never had this before.

An alternative would be to disable UEFI, the computer would boot in Legacy mode by default and reinstall in that mode. Secure Boot is an UEFI feature.

Did you install LM with UEFI disabled in the first place ?

Some HP computers have an UEFI that can't boot Ubuntu/LM by default.

You may reload the default bios settings > save > restart > re-enter bios settings and check you can disable Secure Boot > save > re-try the boot menu.

Since LM is the only OS on your computer and if the above does not work I suggest to disable UEFI and reinstall in Legacy mode.

Stil can't disable 'Secure boot' in BIOS.

Why not reinstalling in Legacy mode ? Your bios settings doesn't allow Legacy boot only, UEFI can't be disabled ?

Laptop is back in the shop, technicians did not know how to handle this problem.
They contacted HP to ask how to disable 'Secure boot'.
