[ SOLVED ] Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
Hi,
Any ideas how to solve this.
Installing Mint went very smooth very fast. (Was a empty disk - I removed the Win10 disk)
When booting that laptop the only message I get is :
Selected boot image did not authenticate.
Please press enter to attempt boot to next device.
When I enter Bios I see that Linux is recognised, (in one of the BIOS screens I read 'Ubuntu')
Thanks in advance
Chris

Did you try to boot through the Boot menu ? Can't remember the function key to use at startup, Esc or Fn?
Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
Nope, there's no bootmenu at all just that message on a white screen
There's no dual boot either, just Mint 18.3 on that HD.

Did you try the Esc or F9 keys, press repeatedly each at startup.

yep tried it and I get a menu choises, one of them is marked UEFI - UBUNTU. When hitting that it shows me again that message....
Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
Check Secure Boot is disabled in the bios settings.
Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
In boot options SATA0 is first in line to boot
Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
The device boot order is not the problem here. What about the Secure Boot setting, any option in the bios related to Secure Boot ?
Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
An alternative would be to disable UEFI, the computer would boot in Legacy mode by default and reinstall in that mode. Secure Boot is an UEFI feature.
Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
I already did disabled UEFI to no avail
Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
No I didn't change a thing installing LM.
All my other HP's got installed without any problems.

Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
Some HP computers have an UEFI that can't boot Ubuntu/LM by default.
You may reload the default bios settings > save > restart > re-enter bios settings and check you can disable Secure Boot > save > re-try the boot menu.
Since LM is the only OS on your computer and if the above does not work I suggest to disable UEFI and reinstall in Legacy mode.

Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
Stil can't disable 'Secure boot' in BIOS.
Added BIOS password(found how to), still not able to disable SecureBoot. and again removed BIOS password, still nothing

Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
To be clear I can change that setting but after reboot nothing has changed..
Re: Install Mint 18.3 on new HP ProBook and no boot at all
Why not reinstalling in Legacy mode ? Your bios settings doesn't allow Legacy boot only, UEFI can't be disabled ?

Will continue tomorrow, thanks...

Laptop is back in the shop, technicians did not know how to handle this problem.
They contacted HP to ask how to disable 'Secure boot'.
