Install on Mac Mini

Post by PC-TECH »

Hello

Can Linux Mint 19 be installed as the primary (native) OS onto a late model (2014) Mac Mini? If yes, are there any special steps that need to be followed? Different from the usual install?

For the record, the specs should be either these ones, or these ones

You should be ok.
If you are installing linux as the only OS, then you are avoiding most of the problems of dual-boot.
Boot the live USB by plugging it and pressing alt/option after the mac boot chime. Then just do as normal for a Mint install.
I have no direct experience, but Retina display is supposed to be well supported by Mint now. The two problems you could (or could not) have, are :
- wifi. Check it works with the live USB, and be ready to connect to internet via an ethernet cable. After install you may need to install the wifi driver via Menu > Administration > Driver Manager
- graphic card. Sometimes there are troubles with the nvidia driver (also installed via the driver manager). Have a try, and if it doesnt work, reboot into recovery mode to purge the nvidia packages.
