Re: GRUB installation failed
Did you create the installation media with the latest iso image of Mint which name must end with "-v2.iso" ?
Re: GRUB installation failed
From the live media (install desktop on usb drive)
Open terminal
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && boot-repair
Then in main menu search boot and run boot repair.

Re: GRUB installation failed
If you have selected manual partitioning option, It looks like you forgot to mount EFI/ESP partition during installation or did not create such partition if no other EFI system is pre-installed. Please provide details about what you're doing/trying in any case.
