Installing Mint on a new drive

Post by Python »

Hi to everyone.

I have been trying out Mint in the Live View after booting from the dvd.

I am now thinking of installing it on a main system that currently has Win 10 installed.
I was going to disconnect the Win 10 drive and put in a new drive and install mint onto that, but, having researching the best way to install I always come across the 'disable secure boot'.
Do I really need to do this, the system is only 2 years old:-
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-4690K (3.5GHz) 6MB Cache
Motherboard ASUS® Z97-P: ATX, LG1150, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs

While reading the MB user Guide I came across this:-
Secure Boot
Windows UEFI Mode :- Only select this when booting on Windows UEFI mode or other Microsoft Secure Boot compliant OS.

Does this mean I have to disable Secure Boot to install Mint?

Thanks in advance with any help.

It's better to disable secure boot.
As you aren't planning dual boot, please see the installation process.

Are installing linux to a separate physical disk from windows? And choose which OS to boot by selecting the boot device?

Your data and OS are backed up....right?

Hi

Thanks for all the replies That I have received.

I have had Mint running for a couple of days now so still playing around with it.

I play an online game which uses flash buT I found that Firefox was very laggy and Chrome wasn't much better so I installed Opera and that is really good, Even the middle wheel lets me zoom in and out just like I can do in Win10. Firefox totally ignored the middle wheel.

Thanks again
