LM19 - Black screen after Gparted Solved

Post by slinger1953 » Mon Sep 24, 2018 2:40 am

I hope this is the correct Forum?

What on earth have I done?

I installed LM19 onto a 2TB drive and had a few problems which were resolved by members on these Forums.
It was running very well.
I was then advised to use the installed Backup option, I read it as requiring it to be installed on the
2Tb drive.
I used Gparted from a Live cd. and made a 600gb partition.
This seemed to go well.
I cannot remember doing any additions after that (I'm 82 and ...well, you know?)
when I turned the machine on after a break, this is the message that I am getting.
I don't really want to do a re-install, so is there anything that I can do please?
I am looking at my other the PC with this message showing right now.

Thank you

If you get the GrUB screen at startup, choose an earlier kernel.

If you don't get the screen at boot, reboot the machine and hold down the shift key when the machine boots to bring up the GrUB menu then choose an earlier kernel. Of course, this assumes you have more than one kernel installed.

Failing all that, boot from a live USB or DVD and post the output of inxi -FxzPD. Enclose the results between [ⅽode] and [/ⅽode] code markers by selecting </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply.

catweazzel : your looking good!!

I'm using the live disk, entered " inxi -FxzPD" with the following result, I copied it to the "Text Editor" which does not appear to have the </> sign?

mint@mint:~$ inxi -FxzPD.
/usr/bin/inxi: illegal option -- .
Error 7: One of the options you entered in your script parameters: -FxzPD.
is not supported. The option may require extra arguments to work.
For supported options (and their arguments), check the help menu: inxi -h
mint@mint:~$

Is this of any use?

adminisstrollaattori:-

I then enter : inxi -Gx with the following result:-

mint@mint:~$ inxi -Gx
Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Kaveri [Radeon R7 Graphics]
bus-ID: 00:01.0
Display Server: x11 (X.Org 1.19.6 )
drivers: ati,radeon (unloaded: modesetting,fbdev,vesa)
Resolution: 1920x1080@60.00hz, 1920x1080@60.00hz
OpenGL: renderer: AMD KAVERI (DRM 2.50.0 / 4.15.0-20-generic, LLVM 6.0.0)
version: 4.5 Mesa 18.0.0-rc5 Direct Render: Yes

Thank you both

For future reference, if you end up at an initramfs prompt, run

Code: Select all

exit
It would then in all likelihood have told you what the problem was, in this case to run fsck on a certain partition. Not intuitive at all, I know. ;)

Looks like you accidentally copied the period following the code box, which is why the inxi command didn't work as expected. Easily done!
