no installation type

Post by RKBock »

Dear Mint Forum,

I'm trying to dual-boot my Lenovo Yoga 720, 15''. Unfortunately, the "installation type" window during the installation is empty. As far as I understood, it's because the SATA controller is currently switched to "RTS" (Rapid Storage Technology, Intel). I wanted to ask, if it is possible to install Mint anyway, or if I have to change my SATA controller to AHCI (and also, ask, what changes such a switch would implement. I'm reasonably familiar with PCs, but not well enough).

Further information about my laptop:
CPU: i5-8250U
RAM: 8GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
hard drive: HFS256GD9TNG-62A0A (256GB M.2 SSD NVMe PCIe)

I'm very sorry, if this question has already been answered. I didn't find it.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Kind Regards,
RKBock.

Your 8th-gen Intel processor requires Linux kernel 4.17 or higher for full support. LM 19 comes with only kernel 4.15. Check whether kernel 4.17 is available in Update Manager, ie >View >Linux kernels or self-install it(eg by using Ukuu) or run the Rolling Release Manjaro Linux(= uses newest Stable kernel) or wait a few more months.
