Mate19:Move home dir to a separate partition on the same drive

Post by jazz.h » Sun Oct 21, 2018 2:13 pm

Hello!

I have tripple boot on my SSD 90 gb size (sdb)- Win10 (sdb1) and Mint 17.3 (sdb2) and Mint 19 Mate (sdb4), I have also a separate HDD (sda) for data only which I mount manually if needed.

I've been running Mint 19 Mate for a couple of months and I am now determined to leave it as a daily driver, meanning there is no need any more to have older Mint 17 in my sdb2.

Since sdb2 is larger in size than sdb4 I have two options:

1. To format sdb2 and move Mint 19 from sdb4 to sdb2
2. To format sdb2 and move home dir only from Mint 19 to a separate home partition in sdb2

Which is easier, any advice?

Code: Select all

lsblk -f
NAME FSTYPE LABEL UUID MOUNTPOINT
sdb
├─sdb1 ntfs Win10Pro A628A48A28A45AD7
├─sdb2 ext4 Mint17.3Mate cd373579-818d-4350-bc43-5f79299b7d51
├─sdb3 swap cf7660c5-47f5-4d11-afd5-8f6c5c98d3cd [SWAP]
└─sdb4 ext4 617618b6-f60b-4723-b950-4d6a040ff5bc /

That's a bit complicated. :)
Anything simplier?
