Install Mint on ASUS T100TAM

Post by Tempus1 » Wed Nov 14, 2018 7:16 am

Dear Colleagues,

i've been trying to install Linux mint 19 mate (32bit) on my ASUS T100TAM via USB Stick for 2 days now.
Hardware Specs:
  • WIN 8.1
  • 32GB Harddrive
  • 2GB RAM
I've tried many different "Help approaches" found on google, but many steps there are too tech-explained, so i couldn't follow.

But I've tried this:

Made a bootable USB with Etcher, Rufus Edit: by now also with USB Universal Installer (8GB FAT32)
Disabled Secure Booting options in BIOS,
Set Boot Option Priorities to USB Drive & Disabled Option#2 in BIOS
Restarted the System about a hundred times.

Whatever i do, it seems not possible to force the system to boot from the USB and install Mint, it just starts Win8.1.

I've installed Ubuntu a year ago with nearly no trouble instead of Win 10 on my Acer, but here i'm quite desparate.

Hope someone can help.

PS: I'm quite a novice to the topic of OS, so please be so kind and explain me things like you would do it for a child.

Thanks!!!

...there exists a very nice step-by-step guide for Asus T100x variants here.
The probably most important step that you should pay special attention is the bootia32.efi part...

This is one of the guides i've been working with during the last hours and here the problem began:

When i choose my Mint.iso, i can only choose Scheme = MBR (GPT UEFI is not chooseable)
The only way to make it chooseable is to set "startmode" to UEFI:NTFS, but then I can't choose FAT32 for Filesystem - only NTFS (which makes sense)

Do I probably have a wrong ISO?

UPDATE: I figured out, that mint on 32bit does not create EFI Folder, and does not allow GPT scheme.
XUBUNTU does. Tried to install XUBUNTU instead of Mint and it worked.

so ty for the help i'll learn to live with xubuntu ;D
