Preserve /home

Post by borgward » Wed Nov 14, 2018 11:28 am

I plan to install linuxmint-19-cinnamon-64bit-v2.iso on Inspiron 1520 that has 18.0 Cinnamon 64bit installed partitioned with separate /home.

Processor : 2x Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2370 @ 1.73GHz
Memory : 4036MB (1999MB used)
Operating System : Linux Mint 18 Sarah

Processor : 2x Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2370 @ 1.73GHz
Memory : 4036MB (1999MB used)

Partition File System Mount Size Flags
/dev/sda1 ext4 / 27.94 GiB boot
/dev/sda2 extended 903.48 GiB
/dev/sda5 linux-swap 3.72 GiB
/dev/sda6 ext4 /home 899.75 GiB
unallocated 94.71 MiB

How do I do this install preserving partitioning and /home

Choose the manual / 'something else' installation option, point to the existing home partition to be mounted as /home again, and make very sure the box on 'format' is not ticked.

I burned a disc of 19 after verifying the download. What's the current way to verify the DVD?

I'm not sure that's a thing. Well, apparently it is, but I've never bothered.
You verified the download, and that's what counts. Will it run?

What's the current way to verify the DVD?
At the menu you get when booting the DVD (see example here: https://linuxmint-installation-guide.re ... /boot.html), choose the option "verify the integrity of the medium"
A reboot is usually necessary after that.

Dont forget to make a backup of all your important data before proceeding to the installation.

Just from memory, when the disk is finished burning, the process continues for awhile....it is verifying it right then by default.
I just double checked, and at least that is the default behavior of Brasero.
