Preferred applications, file Icons
There are a couple of ways to change the preferred application for a particular file type (two that I know of) however the Icon used by the those files does NOT get changed. I use VLC for all my video files (which are mostly mp4) but they all still show that really ugly icon from media player. Now I know that is just being nitpicking but is there a convenient method to make the icon match the application.

Re: Preferred applications, file Icons
I'm pretty sure, though not positive, that's a function of the theme you're using.
Others will verify, but I'd overwrite the icon in your theme's folder with the icon you want.

Re: Preferred applications, file Icons
True that the icons can/do change according to the current theme.
... but the mime type icon associated with the video files still point to the original application.
That is true even if you use the "mate-default-applications-properties" application.
I can change it for a single file but I happen to have something like 2,500 video files.

Re: Preferred applications, file Icons
It would help if I read ALL the words.
In my case, mp4 files are displayed with a still image from the within the file. No idea how that works, but I like it.
I know that my mp3 and wav file icons changed with my theme change.
Be aware, I'm talking icon theme, not gtk theme.

Re: Preferred applications, file Icons
Seen that somewhere. I think that there is a setting to use "Thumbnails" rather than "Icons".
I understand the appeal however I do not want Caja to have to did out a image from every file in order to display a directory (might take a while in some cases).
