Hello Everyone,
In about 5 days I will be receiving my xmas gift : Lenovo Laptop IdeaPad 530s (81H1000RUS) AMD Ryzen 7 2700U (2.20 GHz) 16 GB Memory 512 GB PCIe SSD AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 14.0" . It has Windows 10 and as soon as I can , I will dual boot with LM cinnamon 19.1 unless someone here advises something else for this ryzen 7 machine. This will be my first ryzen experience. It may be a challenge but I am looking forward to it.
I appreciate anyone who suggests tips and info for LM cinnamon 19.1 and ryzen 7 / vega 10.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Marcia

It all depends what you wanna do with the PC. I did read your previous post about a couple days ago. If you do intend do 3D stuff like Blender then not having Nvidia graphics card is not so good. The same for Games. More RAM in a PC means you have to open Programs who need plenty of RAM at the same time. Like you wanna cut a movie in Kdenlive and want make an intro frame in Gimp. Or you have an open Project in Blender and you need work on your textures or skin in Gimp. Or you open gazilion Firefoxes at the same time.. If you neeed that then having more RAM is good.
There is in general a contradiction in upgrade abilities in laptops. Desktop PC is modular and you can exchange all components, but laptops are not so modular.
Do you wanna watch Youtube in good quality?.. then full HD with IPS panell schould be your priority. Do you want minimal trouble by installation of Linux, then you should search for reviews on the net for particular models that are made it to this position.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your in depth answer. Very helpful.
I was not needing an ultra power-horse. I already have that with my desktop.
I do not play games. This model does have the FHD IPS display. It has 16 gigs
of ram, too, so not too bad. I do some light video editing and will try some of
that on the new lenova to see how it works. Otherwise I need this for travel and
just around the house. It is very light weight unlike my older but still excellent
Lenova thinkpad w520 which is very heavy. I am sure I can do everything I do without
a problem. I do not need more than this probably for a couple of years at least.
I am looking forward to receiving this in a couple of days. Will be partitioning the
drive and installing LM Cinnamon 19.1 on it. At least that is the plan.
I very much appreciate the information.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Marcia
