removing of not needed helpfiles

Post by 52ROSt » Tue Jan 08, 2019 4:59 am

LM 19.1 XCFE installation on a USB stick.

I am installing this machine on a USB stick for a friend as a Back-Up machine.

During the installation I observed that for all kind of languages help file were installed. To save disk space I would like uninstall all what is not needed. I only need to keep English (US) and Japanese for normal writing.

How can I identify all these files and remove them from the disk?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Take a look at the localepurge package (command line tool).

Hey 52ROSt. Your choice obviously, but pretty sure this is a drop in the bucket. Text files take next to no room when compared to everything else in the OS. I'd be surprised if you freed up 1% of the install by removing the unneeded help files. Probably more like 0.1%.

@gm10Thanks for the purge command hint

@pbear and @gm10 - There is quite a difference in the figure you mentioned. Could you please give me a hint how I can find this out? I am looking for a suitable command but haven't find one yet.

Oh, gm10 knows much more about Linux than me, so take his number. No idea how it's so much. Screenshots, maybe?

@pbaear
Thanks for your reply.

Now, I hope to get good commands to identify all the language related files.

Do a backup first.
