Hi jamesyboy29, Welcome.

Where in the "install now" part does it not do anything? Like, you double-click the install icon disc and it doesn't do anything at that point? or you end up with some specific error later? or what?

...does this machine already have an OS installed / NTFS partitions taking up the whole space?

There was a recent thread here with relatively 'similar' behavior -
the installer 'not doing nothing' when clicked, and not even coming up with any logs...
Solution was pretty easy once figured out, see here if such is the case:

When windows installed in default it is installed with UEFI. To get any OS selectable both OSes must be installed UEFI. This is done right:
Mint up to 18.3: boot up the medium that starts the installer booting explicite with UEFI in BIOS.
Since Mint 19 it is done implicite but can do so explicite.

When you have installed W10 explicite in compatible mode then you must explicite done compatible by Mint installer medium too.

Mint installer needs either free space to install mint beside linux or go over "Others" and make free space by shrinking windows and the create new partition(s):
30 GB, mount on /
8, 16 or 32 GB as linux swap
30 GB or more on /home

Partition type is either ext4 or btrfs.

Excellent!

So, about sound, drivers are shipped within the kernel. If you check in the sound settings you can figure if analog or digital configuration is chosen. Digital is often selected by default on certain setups, which would direct sound to hdmi or optical outputs. For pc speakers, headphones or typical audio plugs on the motherboard, analog is the choice you want.

We can go a step further with that if needed. If so, then use terminal command: inxi -Axx and show us that output.

Oh, I wasn't notified of this response until just now. Anyway...

Test with 4.18 kernel, there is a bug in relation to 4.15 kernel and not patched yet.

Install kernel from Update Manager, click "View" menu - "Linux Kernels".

Install a 4.18 kernel, then reboot to test.

Double check this: In the volume control at bottom right make sure the configuration tab shows analog stereo duplex(or output), also using the output devices tab make sure the speaker is not highlighted(so therefore mute is off), and then on the playback tab scroll down if needed and find the active sound output(you will see the bouncing sound meter movement).. make sure there is no mute and have volume. Do you have the bouncing sound meter movement? How is the screen connected? vga, dvi, hdmi cable?

Hi jamesyboy29.

I'm pretty sure your sound card is supported. I't probably just not configured correctly.

I'd suggest you install and run PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol) and on the Configuration tab select Analog Stereo Duplex, then ensure the Output Devices tab shows the correct port for your use case (headphones, speakers, etc.)

If still no luck, paste back the output of running aplay -l in the terminal. Also, start a song or video then run pacmd list-sinks in the terminal and paste that output as well.

Good luck.

Do you have headphones you can plug in? I'm suspecting they will work, but the speakers still won't when unplugging them.

I've seen a few similar issues with users that also have the ALC269VB codec. Often the problem just disappears without knowing why.

Also see if a full shutdown instead of a reboot makes a difference.
