Mint install Freezes

Post by borgward »

Mint mate 18.1 32bit install freezes halfway through. Usually around downloading language packages. Live runs well. Runs xsane, SCSI large format scanner, and Gimp.

ASUS A7N8X-X mobo. Athlon XP 3200+ CPU. Either Nvidia AGP or Matrox pci video card (either run well under live session. 2Gb DDR 400 RAM.

I can install Mint Mate 13 32bit and latest antix 32bit from optical drive.

You may try to make an USB bootable drive instead of CD Drive. It's very faster than CD.
Make bootable drive with Rufus and make sure your Mint ISO is verified with MD5 match or not.
Try to look boot progress also by pressing up when Mint splash screen appear.
If it can showed desktop and can run 'ubiquity', the Live USB should be fine.
5 years using Linux Mint, it's feels like my own neighbourhood.

The BIOS does not have option to boot from USB. The USB is USB 2.

the usb2 should still work, abet more slowly.

however - did you check that the ISO is correct:
https://linuxmint.com/verify.php
select the version, that you downloaded & check it.

did you burn that CD - on a slow setting ? ie: not using Auto ?.

then - can you try that CD on another machine's drive - as the CD drive may be flaky, as well.

if you don't have another machine to play with, then try using the 2nd option of the Installer Menu:
- using compatibility mode, to see if that makes any difference.

CD/DVD could be issue. Lite-On. Very clean inside. A few years old, but not used much. No problem installing Mint 13 Mate. No other computer except laptop. HDD is old but passed SMART tests. Computer has been locked up at Running post-installation craklib-runtime for 25 minutes.

First attempt;
No wired connection

Installer immediately crashed.

Reboot
