Hello,
I have 1 SSD = 128GB and 1 HDD = 800GB.. I want to install linux mint on my notebook, but, what's the better approach?
1) install using LVM, and include SSD+HDD into /root partitions
2) install using the normal partition: SSD (/boot, swap and / ) HDD(/home)
What's the better approach?
Thanks!
Install mint on SSD+HDD it's better to use LVM or normal partitions?

For a new user it's better to use simple installation and not use LVM

If the SSD isn't home then you can prob do that.

I would use the SSD (faster) for the system: root and home. No swap partition needed since LM 19.x creates a swapfile by default.
HDD (slower) could then be used for data storage.

Agree with philotus, separate partitions for root and home on the ssd and mount the hdd as something like /home/you/data

I was think on performance...
It's better to use SSD+HDD with LVM as a unique "drive" or use separate SSD and HDD, I already have several experience using LVM com RHEL and fedora... but none using SSD+HDD only SSD+SSD

Re: Install mint on SSD+HDD it's better to use LVM or normal partitions?
Performance-wise, I don't think you will gain anything by having LVM. Rather the contrary, because it is another layer of "abstraction" that has to be worked out before bits can be written/read to/from the disk. But this is highly insignificant performance hit. But then in terms of the management of your disk set-up, of course, LVM offers a much greater level of flexibility. I am sure others are able to shed more light on why and when LVM is to be used.

Use normal partitions. LVM is not necessary for small computing environments, especially with mixed drives of very unequal performance characteristics such as an SSD with a spinning drive.
