Installing to an HP laptop

Post by luvlinuxmint »

My grandson gave me his old Win8 laptop. The label on it says AMD A6 Vision. That's all I know about it. Any hints on getting Mint to install? My Serena live CD does run on it

Do you need to use M/S Windows?

Is there anything currently on it you need to save/keep?

I'd do a full install & dedicate the whole thing to Linux. I prefer the Cinnamon desktop because it is like Windows and easy to learn with lots of apps.

The downloads are on the web site https://www.linuxmint.com/.

Good idea to verify the integrity of the downloaded ISO before you install it.

Lots of threads here on the forum to help with all of this.

Good luck and enjoy!

I'm running an HP ProBook 470 without any issues with Mint 64bit. Given that HP printers are also fairly Linux friendly, I'd suggest that you have no issues.

I've installed LM Cinnamon 64 bit to my Asus x53e laptop......I like the option to use the entire disk....It makes it so much easier.....I installed LM 19.1 from a dvd that I burned....Right now my Asus only has 4 gb of memory and 19.1 is running on it.
