Have new acer swift1 14" laptop. Tried to install using usb2, usb3, and usb connected dvd. All I get is a black screen with an unblinking dash in top left of screen. Ububtu 18.04 boots just fine.
Don't know what to do.

Re: 18.3 Live will not boot
Someone posted using Etcher to burn the usb solved the prob, another said using Mint USB Image Writer did it. Neither helped.

Re: 18.3 Live will not boot
I used ReFus and it worked like a charm. Please download the latest version and try using that to flash iso on the flash drive.
Re: 18.3 Live will not boot
Have you Tried RuFus ?
Re: 18.3 Live will not boot
Why not? They're not really all that different, and you can easily make them look pretty much exactly like 18.3...

If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

Re: 18.3 Live will not boot
Tried Rufus still couldn't get 18.3 to boot.
Moem, Has nothing to do with appearance. There is a Windows application I can't live without and ver 19 makes me crazy trying to get wine to work. I gave up and installed 19.1. After 2 hours of grief I finally fixed wine. After a reboot the touch pad shut down.
I SURRENDER - reinstalled Ubuntu and I'll keep trying to get 18.3 to boot.
After years of using Mint (since ver 3) and installing on dozens of pc's I finally found one that's a problem.
Thank you all for trying to help.

That's for Mint 19 but it applies to 18.3. You will find exactly the same instructions here for 18.3.
