[SOLVED] System Trashed (Cockpit Error) Save Data & Reinstall?

Post by INOV8TN » Tue Jun 04, 2019 12:57 pm

Story:

Upgraded from 19 to 19.1 on an hp Pavilion dv1000 Notebook (32 bit & upgraded to 2GB memory) and lost wireless.

Restarted from an older version and no joss.

Tried following wireless restoration from a different site that was aimed at installing a Driver Manager and a new driver specifically for my wireless card. - No Joss

Thought I would copy out Documents and Pictures to a thumb drive and do a clean reinstall of 19.1 but after the reboot I got into a cycle of the system asking for my password again and again so that I didn't have the time to use the file manager to do the copy.

Not sure what to do now.

Stranger than strange:

Ran iso of ANTI-X but didn't install it. Then rebooted.
  • Wireless started working
    Password routine stopped
I copied my Documents and Photos to the Thumb Drive
I would like to copy my Wireless Settings so I don't have to figure them out again but don't know where to find them.

Should I go ahead and format The File System ie 'C:' and do a complete reinstall? If so is there doc you can refer me to?

What Desktop are you using? (Mate, Cinnamon, XFCE) With 2GB of memory, I hope it's XFCE.

just use the Live LinuxMint Media to recover your /DATA from the drive,
& then goto an New Installation of the Linux System - would be the most prudent option, to follow.
