Kernel panic at install

Postby zepita » Mon Jul 20, 2009 8:12 pm

Hi, This is my first attempt to install Mint and it was unsuccessful. I got the following error:

(see attached)

I can't even try safe mode or even test the cd for defects.

I'm currently using ubuntu 9.04 and I have tested the memory and hd for errors and it's ok.

The system is a lenovo R61i laptop with intel 965 express chipset

Thanks :)

Which OS is the host for burning from the Mint *.iso file ?

If that also has an issue, you can try xfburn, which uses a different library than either k3b or brasero or gnomebaker etc.. (not Wodim)
Wodim...

Xfburn is a simple CD/DVD burning tool based on libburnia libraries. It can blank CD-RWs, burn and create iso images, as well as burn personal compositions of data to either CD or DVD.
--also it seems that some distributions need to be burned at slower speeds, such as 4x

I was using opensuse 11.1 and downloaded the iso with monsoon. I expected much more from that distro, nothing really worked for me.

The iso was successfully burned with K3B and SLAX using the same CDRW.

I'm now using Mint, I only had to install virtualbox and smplayer.

Great distro.
