Not booting from live USB

Post by faisal892 » Wed Jul 17, 2019 12:46 am

Hi,

I have HP x360 13 laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 2500U processor. I am trying to boot Linux Mint 19.2 from USB and after making selection in the Grub menu the screen goes blank. I have disabled fast boot in Windows 10, disabled secure boot in BIOS and switched to Legacy mode but still the same issue.

Please help me resolving this issue..

Hi, Are you accessing BIOS, via F9 at the start of the boot process, to access which item to boot from or move the USB to top of the boot list?
I wouldn't expect the USB to appear in the GRUB menu.
Hope this helps.

I'm having a different mainboard but also AMD Ryzen 5. I needed to press F8 rapidly, and a wild menu appeared. In the last screen I could "override boot option" and choose the USB drive.

Note 1: The USB wouldn't show up until I powered the device off, unplugged the power, inserted the USB drive, replugged and powered on the device.
Note 2: The USB drive would show up both as USB Drive and USB Drive Partition 1. Only the latter option worked.

I am not making this up.

Ya, that's right. I assess USB by pressing F9.

Good work! Problem solved, suggest you now insert [Solved] in subject heading.

So, where now? Wanting to install Linux Mint 19.2 as a dual boot with Windows 10 or just having a look around Linux Mint 19.2?
