I am also remembering the advice from Pjotr's site of not to mess with things when you have work to do :D

I would wholeheartedly agree with pbear about retaining the grub menu for a very short period each time you boot.
It can be difficult with a UEFI machine to show the menu when it's really needed, for example when a new kernel causes booting problems (unlikely but possible) which you need to do in order to boot to an older kernel version.

I use a 2 second timeout and hardly notice that when I do cold boot which is seldom, and generally only when the system tells me to do so after an update of, for example, the kernel.
