LM19.2 Install on Acer NEtbook

Post by w5gcxed » Sun Sep 08, 2019 4:21 pm

I have Linuxmint 17 32bit xfce installed on an Acer Netbook with Atom chip (32bit) and 2GB Memory. Can I directly install Linux MInt 19.2 32Bit xfce in its place ? Or must I first remove LM 17 install ?

thx

While installing tick format option on the 17 partition, select something else option and choose same partition as 17 for the install of 19.
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.

Clean install would be the best option. As deepakdeshp stated, use the same partitions layout with format option to clear contents. General rule is, clean install between series (17.x to 18.x or 19.x) and update inside of a series (19.1 to 19.2).
Mint Mate 19.1. Main rig is HP 800G2 I5 6500 16GB ram, 120GB boot drive, 2x3TB, 1x4TB data drives. Oldest rig is Mate 18.3 on Dell D620 with 32bits core duo.

I´ve found the smaller Acers (net books AOA150 & AO532h-2588) to be Linux friendly.
Perhaps because they were originally designed for Linux distros like Linpus Linux.
Never had a problem with hardware drivers ... WiFi worked from minute 1 right after the satin smooth installation.
These are installations I actually did myself ... not conjecture and post parroting from other contributors.

Your netbook sounds like it might be a AO532h series and as such it probably has an Atom N450 CPU that is capable of running in both 32 and 64 bit mode.
You could consider installing LM v19.2 64 bit XFCE.
I have the 64 bit version of LM XFCE on my Acer netbook (AO532h-2588) and it runs great with Crucial 500 GB SSD and 2 GB RAM.
The general consensus seems to be to upgrade (update manager) within versions and overwrite when moving to the next version.
