Moving my SSD to a New Machine and Migrating My Partition to

Post by Kendoori » Wed Sep 18, 2019 9:34 am

I bought a new Thinkpad that comes with a 256 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe drive. I have Mint 19.2 all configured to my liking on an existing Thinkpad on a 2.5" SSD. I would like to move the 2.5' SSD, and potentially use it as the secondary drive in the new machine; whereby I would migrate /home and / (currently sda1 and sda2) to partitions that I create on the M.2 device. I am assuming that I use USB boot to do this. I also would wipe Windows from the M.2 as I don't want a dual boot.

Once I get the partitions cloned to the M.2, what would be the mechanics of making it bootable? Something like Boot Repair?

My existing system is NOT UEFI. The new one is a T480.
