Install Mint 19.2 on new Dell laptop

Post by andykuz » Thu Sep 19, 2019 2:56 am

Hello,

Please help, I try to install Mint 19.2 Mate 64 bit on new laptop Dell Inspiron 3585 Ryzen 5 2500U 8Gb SSD 256Gb AMD Radeon Vega 8.
1. Create live flash Mint 19.2 Mate 64 bit.
2 Try to boot with different BIOS settings (UEFI and Legacy) - no result. Allways black screen on start boot. But on another computer is booting normal.
3. Create live flash Mint 18.3 Mate 64 bit. Install normal but problems with touch pad.
4. Upgrade from Mint 18.3 Mate 64 bit to Mint 19.0 Mate 64 bit via help https://itsfoss.com/upgrade-linux-mint-version/
5 Problems with touch pad not solved. After reboot touch pad working fine. But in 2-3 minute stop working. Just only connect mouse.
6. Upgrade from Mint 19.0 Mate 64 bit to Mint 19.2 Mate 64 bit via standard "Update manager"
7. After reboot - black screen
8. Boot to recovery mode - normal - appeared message "No external display" And seems touch pad work correctly.

I thing problem with display settings. Please help with set some settings.
Thansk a lot

Hi Andy,
the issue may be with the Video Card Driver:
- can you check via Menu - Control Centrer - - Administration - - Driver Manager,
to see if there is any drivers available.

can you also type this into Terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
and the then copy, the result of that, back here, on your reply.

Hi Pierre!

Thanks for your replay
In Driver manager is empty - no proprietary drivers.

Result of command "inxi -Fxz" will write today in some hours.
Thanks a lot.

change xed to whatever text editor you are using if necessary in this command line in terminal.

Code: Select all

sudo xed /etc/default/grub
In that file, change this line to add nomodeset.

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset"

Then update grub in terminal/console

Code: Select all

update-grub
reboot.
