Which option do I choose for reinstalling Mint on dual boot Mint Windows system?

Post by james-r » Fri Sep 20, 2019 1:22 pm

I have Xfce but I want to install Cinnamon.
Xfce is a fresh install thus I wouldn't lose data.
I want to install Cinnamon over Xfce.

Yes, that's the right option. New for 19.2, by the way (or maybe it was 19.1). Previously, you had to delete the old installation (leaving the space unallocated) before "install alongside" could place the new one in its space.

I just installed LM v19.2 XFCE 64 bit over LM v19.2 CINNAMON 64 bit (overwrite) and no problems whatsoever.
Just stuck the USB drive in the port and booted into it and pressed the big button on the screen and let the XFCE installer do its thing.
Everything is running fine (and faster) as a XFCE system.
Don't know why the reverse would be any different.

It´s not rocket science.
Some are dropping /root, /swap, /home partitions all over the place like an overfed seagull at the park.
Just pop the appropriate USB thumb drive (containing a Cinnamon image) into a USB port, boot into it and press the big INSTALL button on the screen and follow the simple directions a 6 year old could understand and the LM installer program will overwrite your previous O/S.
LM intended this to be simple and succeeded marvellously in that regard.
Follow the KISS (Keep It Simple St***d) principle.

What you're overlooking is that the OP's system is dual boot. And the option he asked about isn't documented anywhere (that I know of), so it seemed like a reasonable question to me.
