Boot and shutdown problems with Mint 19.2

Post by AnticLaptop » Sat Oct 12, 2019 3:36 am

Hi!
I am a complete newbie with Linux, so these might be easily fixable for someone with more knowledge.

I had a dual boot system (yes, I know, ancient computer, but using it mainly as a car diagnostic platform) with Mint 13 and Windows Xp professional. After I upgraded to Mint 19.2 the following problems emerged.

1. I cant boot straight Mint. If I do, booting freezes at some point. I have to choose rescue mode, network, wait about 10 seconds and then resume. This works about 75% of the time.

2. When choosing restart, the screen flashes a couple of times and then on upper quarter of the screen there starts to run text (possibly shutdown info?). If I select shutdown, system either freezes or kicks me back to the logon screen.

These all happen with kernel 4.15.0-54, I havent got even this far with the newest 4.15.0-69 kernel.

Here is the inxi -Fxz info:
