[Solved] Running mint from USB, shortcuts don't work

Hi all! I installed mint on a usb to run on my ageing work computer. Works great, with one exception. I made shortcuts on the Mint desktop to the folders I use most. To make these work, I have to mount the windows OS after start up. Not a big deal, it takes 3 seconds to open home folder and click on "OS", but still I thought it would be more convenient if they just worked immediately. So I went into "discs" and changed the windows OS partition on the HDD to automatic mount on start up. Strangely enough, now the shortcuts don't work. When I go back to mounting it manually after start up, the shortcuts work again. I have no clue why this is. It's not a big problem, but I would be happy for all assistance (and please remember I'm a beginner, so you might need to talk slowly :-) ).

Is this liveUSB or Mint installed to USB? If the second option, mountpoints are determined via /etc/fstab file.

It's a USB install, not live USB. I tried to go through that link, but I'm afraid I didn't understand all of it. Mounting the HDD on which Windows and all my work files are is not a problem, and I can do this either automatically or by simply clicking on it after start-up. The problem is that the shortcuts I made on the Mint desktop to the folders in Windows where all my stuff is only work when I manually mount the disk. As I said, not a big problem since it takes a few seconds to find it and click on it, but it would still be convenient to have everything work immediately on start-up.

Have you tried deleting the old shortcuts and creating new ones based on the auto-mounted partition?

I suspect the problem is as simple as that the old shortcuts are confused by the difference in mount points.

I'll try that on Monday morning, sounds like a likely explanation. Thanks!
