Errno 30 when installing

Post by daowen »

Hi All,

Getting an error while installing the latest version on a LapTop with a new SSD. Searched the forum but not seeing an answer.

Here is the error:
[Errno 30] read-only file system
This is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers), to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to a cooler environment.
Not sure what this is being caused by. Have tried two different SSDs and still the same issue.

Machine - ASUSTek K40IN
CPU - Dual Core P T4200 64 bit
Ram - 4 gigs

Installing from USB

Any help will be appreciated.

Did you verify the ISO? If so, I’d try burning it to a different USB stick...rare, but not unheard of for a defective one to cause this.

Yes, I verified the ISO and tried three sticks. It happened with every distro I downloaded and the wife really wants Mint on the laptop. It's the one I started her on. Even installed the ISOs on VMs to make sure they worked.

Is your new drive a second drive? Is it external— if so you should try a different cable on it. I take it the live session is working OK? In live session, can Gparted see your drive(s) correctly? Just to confirm, is there a Windows install on this machine?

It replaced the original drive. It boots from the install image without issues. Gparted sees the drive correctly.

Have you done anything for the hard drive at all? Boot to live session, open Gparted, build new partition table, then make your partitions for “/“ (root), Home, or whatever else you want, put a boot flag on the / (root) partition, let it format the partitions, then close out and try your install again.
