Well, I tried! No joy.

And ubuntu1 was not very nice -- launchpad claimed my email already had an account (possibly from 2004 when I reported
that the update mis-estimated the disk space needed to update the OS and completely filled my disk. Do NOT do that!)
So what next?

Not sure. Is there a lost password function? Or grab a free email address from any provider and create a new account. Then use the apport-bug command and create a new bug I guess. I've not done this with Ubuntu's stuff myself, I look much more at the main kernel bugs from kernel.org

I'll check in the morning to see if there's other advice, as I've reset to boot in "51" for now.
I've some other stuff that has risen up the priority ladder. I'll see if by then my old ubuntu1
identity is available also. And maybe see if there's some non-geek info on apport-bug. I've
been building computers since 1961, but don't do much kernel or low level stuff, though
I can usually learn the bits I need to.

I hear ya. I've never had a bug that needed reporting so the system is foreign to me.

Maybe Lance will file one that you can join in on.

After reading manpage of apport, I tried

apport-bug linux

and

apport-bug linux-image-5.3.0-53-generic

Got
"*** Problem in linux-image-5.3.0-53-generic

The problem cannot be reported:

This is not an official Linux package. Please remove any third party package and try again."

Sigh. Very unfriendly bug system. Also does not seem to allow simple text entry, but insists on using apport.
Reminds me of the message I used to get from our Univ registrar "Please give us a list of all the students who are not attending".

FWIW I put a link back to this thread in the launchpad bug thread, since my machine info
is here, along with comments by others. I've had a few lock-ups over the last month or
so at random times and situations. Maybe related. Let's hope the main issue resolved
quickly.

If there's urgent need for something to be tested, email nashjc _at_ uottawa.ca
as I'm not always as diligent in checking the forum here as perhaps I could be.

I'm having the same issue. Mine wont reboot or shutdown at all. I've waited 20 minutes on each instance of reboot and shutdown. I finally have to hold down my power button until its forces an improper shut down and then I have to power back up.

I think it's going to be 5.3.0-51 (I used grub-customizer to set it as default boot) until this is fixed.
Though we should hope it's not just something that "works", but a fix for which the reason is understood,

Like I had said earlier, there were five changes for amdgpu in the 5.3.0-53 kernel. Probably one (or more) of those changes caused a regression that will hopefully be discovered during the bug investigation. Notice that another poster on Ryzen in this thread had no ill effects with this kernel but is using Nvidia instead of AMD.

Same issue here: system boots, but does not shut down, it hangs on the mint logo circle. There are also interruptions of a few seconds when scrolling in a browser.

Same, although my description would be 'shuts down but doesn't power off', but I'm sure we're talking the same thing. Also Lenovo with Ryzen/AMD, and a rollback to 51 helped. Anything I can do to help the devs fix it or has it been taken care of sufficiently already?

Not really willing to do an install on my tower that is giving the trouble, as I've too much other
work pending, but am willing to help if it doesn't create too much risk. Would a VM be enough
to get the result? I'll also see if Feng will answer that.

I can also confirm these problems on my Lenovo Ideapad Ryzen 5 2500U Vega 8. Rollback to -51 done.
Comforts to know I'm not alone and that the bug is reported.
