Post by WindowsMint »

On boot i get this notification

Image

- I noticed i can't install new packages in package manager.
- Several applications don't start.
- The cinnamon window effects are not smooth.

How do i check the system log and the lookingglass log?

Thanks.

Nevermind.

I reverted back to 19.3 with Timeshift.
Thanks for the hassle, Mint 20.

I also ran into problem upgrading from 19.3 to 20. But it's advised to do a fresh install for a version change as in 19.x to 20.
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help.

I only fresh installed Mint 19.3 two months ago, three at most. I though it wouldn't be a problem to make the upgrade...

This article viewtopic.php?f=90&t=273814 explains that the log is file .xsession-errors in the home directory. When I got that dialog (which disappears too fast IMHO), I used less to view the log file and search for "error":
Cjs-Message: 11:06:21.488: JS LOG: [LookingGlass/error] [[boxed instance proxy GIName:GLib.Error jsobj@0x7f1a72371730 native@0x559e184bb600]]: Failed to evaluate 'main' function on desklet: clock@schorschii/5
Cjs-Message: 11:06:21.488: JS LOG: [LookingGlass/trace]
<----------------
To check for the failing desklet, I right-clicked the desktop and clicked Add Desklet, then examined the "about" info (the button that looks for each of the desklets I had enabled until I found one having clock@schorschii/5 in it. I disabled the desklet, logged out and back in again, et voila, ça marche!

This is the only aggravation I had from the Mint 20 upgrade. My thanks to the people who made it work!

I don't blame you, not that I was having boot-up or technical issues with LM20. I just don't think it's as good as LM19.3. Now reverted to 19.3 myself.
