Error starting Linux Mint 20 xfce

Post by stephkeys »

I updated from 19.3 to 20 through the terminal and everything was working but when I turned on the laptop it gave this error:

[ 0.337416] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_SB.PCIO._OSC.CDW11, AE_NOT_FOUND (20190816/psargs-330)[0.337495] ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PCIO._OSC due to previous error(AE_NOT_FOUND) (20190816/psparse-529)

and then a lot more, I turned off the laptop by the button and started again and it appeared:

GRU GRUB version 2.04
*Linux Mint 20 xfce
Advanced options for Linux Mint 20 xfce

and I chose the first option and started normal, but my wallpaper is gone and when I change the folder of wallpapers that comes with the system it doesn't appear. What happened? What do I do? Alias I have a kernel update to 5.4.0-47.51 to do (which I use is 5.4.0-47-generic), should I update?

I turned off the laptop again to see if this problem would always happen, those two warnings appeared again but for 2 seconds and soon started normally, I put a wallpaper from the internet and it did not disappear, but the system background photos did not it appears more in the folder when choosing, but I saw it on thunar and they are there just do not appear in the menu to change.

So I decided to format and install the 20 xfce again, but the errors kept showing up, but it also lasted 2 seconds and soon the system started normal. It didn't happen when I used version 19.3, why is it happening now?

The laptop needs to stay plugged in at all times as the battery no longer works.

When you updated from Mint 19.3 to Mint 20 did you follow the installation guide for this?
https://linuxmint-installation-guide.re ... en/latest/
It would be wiser to have saved your data and files and then did a fresh install on mint 20. The upgrade has know problems and should be done carefully.

From 19.3 check if you can install the kernel 5.4.0-26 or -40 that works well, stay with this kernel and then to upgrade to Mint 20. This laptop is at its last breath, if you want to keep it, buy a cheap UPS not to shut down when there is power lost.
