Mint 19.3 No WiFi

Post by Silver Surfer »

Hi Guys,
Silver Surfer has a problem.

Seem to have lost WiFi facility since recent updates! However, I can connect with Ethernet cable.
I have tried following instructions for changing BIOS to SECURE BOOT to DISABLE but it requests a code number to do this, but on typing, the numbers in, nothing appears on screen anywhere.
As a novice level knowledge Geriatric, although having read a lot of the posts on this subject, I am hesitant to stumble around in the Terminal on my own, for fear of upsetting the “Gods”
Anyone whom can help with this problem, I am very good at following specific “Terminal” instructions.

in some cases, you need to set an administrator password in the UEFI before you can disable Secure Boot. Anyway, let's see your system details:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxrz && rfkill list && iwconfig && mokutil --sb-state

You do need to disable secure boot. You might also need to reinstall the wifi driver, but you can't do that with secure boot enabled.

Does this help any?

How do I disable secure boot on HP Pavilion?

Use the arrow keys to select the Security menu, select Secure Boot Configuration, and then press Enter. Press F10 on the Secure Boot Configuration message to continue. Use the arrow keys to select Disable next to Secure Boot, and then select Enable next to Legacy Support. Press F10 to accept the changes.

Hi sleeper12,
As I said in my first post.
In the BIOS I changed secure boot to disable then saved and exite. It then said in order to make this change, I needed to enter the 4 digit code that it displayed to me in order to make this happen.
I typed this code in, but nothing was visible on the screen which seemed to be locked. I had to forcibly shut down the computer to get out of this. Consequently when re booting and checking the BIOS, SECURE BOOT was still enabled.

Perhaps you need to enable Legacy Support before you can enter the 4 digit code?

Re: Mint 19.3 No WiFi SOLVED

Post by Silver Surfer »

Right Guys.
Think we've fixed it!
I went through changing the BIOS to Secure Boot Disabled again.
After exiting Bios, it came up with same request to enter the code it gave me, in order to make this change. Although nothing was visible on screen my keyboard entries were obviously saved and the new BIOS was accepted.
So now all is working correctly with WiFi available.

Thanks for your guidance.
Grateful thanks.
