Upgrading to Mint 20 fails with GRUB error

Post by Muis »

I am trying to upgrade to Mint 20 from Mint 19.3, and during the upgrade the installation fails to install package grub-efi-amd64-signed with the following error:

Code: Select all

grub-install.real: error: relocation 0x4 is not implemented yet.
I can find very little information about this error, only that it relates to a bug that should have been patched three years ago.

Is there anything I can do to finish the upgrade? For example, force a newer version of GRUB or skip installing it (since I already have it anyway)?

19 -> 20 upgrade procedure has a lot of issues, I'd recommend a clean install of 20.

Spot on, I've been there done that! In the long run it's the path of least resistance.
